Bone cancer is an uncommon cancer form, characterised by abnormal growth in bone tissues. The abnormal behaviour of bone tissues is a result of neo-plastic growth. The cancer form usually develops in large bones and weakens their structure. Bone cancer tumour may occur as benign or as a malignant.

Signs and symptoms of bone cancer are not evident in its initial phase. Health care experts too believe that most bone cancer patients do not experience definite bone cancer symptoms. Identifying early signs is important in order to begin treatment as soon as possible.

Swelling

One of the most noticeable symptoms of bone cancer is swelling. Patients have swelling along with pain in the affected region. In most of the cases, swelling appears after several weeks. The swelling of bone region is a consequence of exhaustion of the organ, and the disruption of its function. In children, bones become fragile that even a minor accident results in fracture.

Tumour

Every cancer form start with the formation and growth of tumour, bone cancer is no different. A growing tumour can be detected by touch, which may appear in the form of cyst in the pain-affected area. The tumour formational and development is usually painful, but sometime painless mass of tumour may go unnoticed.

Pain

Experiencing pain in bones is another prominent sign of bone cancer. During initial stage of bone cancer, one experience moderate pain during activities such as running and walking. However, pain becomes persistent and nagging with the development of bone cancer. This pain may also result in insomnia. Persistent pain is the common symptoms of bone cancer, but not all patients experience this symptom.

Other Symptoms of Bone Cancer
  1. Bone cancer in the later stages causes several health complications and concerns. Tumour produces calcium salt which gets dissolved in the bloodstream. Owing to alleviated calcium level in bloodstream, health issues such as vomiting, nausea and abdominal pain may arise. Such conditions also explain the occurrence of bone cancer.
  2. Sudden weight loss, nausea, chills, fever, increased fatigue and anaemia are among other non-specific symptoms of bone cancer.
  3. Weakened and fragile bones also indicate the occurrence of bone cancer. In this scenario, slight injure could turn into a fracture.
  4. Bone cancer tumour also affects body parts adjacent to affected bone. This causes pain, numbness or tingling in nerves.
