Vitamins and Tips to Stop Hair Loss

One of the main reasons why people suffer from hair loss is because of poor nutrition. Proper eating habits have fallen by the wayside over the last two decades as quick and easy food has been more appealing to the average consumer. While it may be easy to put a hot pocket in the microwave instead of making a health meal with salad, it is also taxing on your body. Poor nutrition leads to lack of nutrients and hormonal imbalances which ultimately lead to the loss of hair.

Your body operates like a well oiled machine when it is fed properly, but when it is not then things start to go wrong. If you want to know how to stop losing your hair then you need to understand what you are doing on a day to day basis to cause hair loss to begin with. Maintaining a healthy diet complete with fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains as well as taking a multivitamin will help stop hair loss quickly. Your hair should naturally be strong, long, healthy and shiny. If it isn't then there are a few things you can do to improve the process.

First, select a multivitamin that is specifically designed for hair growth. Typically these multivitamins are targeted towards "hair, skin and nails" because all three need the same nutrients and vitamins to be at their best. You can find these multivitamins at nearly any vitamin store or naturopathic office. Iron is one of the key nutrients that you need to promote hair growth. You may need to take an additional iron supplement in order for this to occur. If your diet is naturally lacking in iron because you do not eat foods like red meat then you should definitely choose a daily dose of iron as part of your diet.

Prevention of follicle loss is always the first step in treating it. You can take all the pills in the world but if you do not take steps to prevent your hair loss then you will still continue to lose hair. There are a few tips to follow to prevent hair loss.

* Never brush your strands while it is wet. A hairbrush grabs the strands and will cause them to break. You should only use a wide toothed comb to detangle strands when it is wet.

* Avoid over processing your locks through blow drying, straightening with a flat iron or getting regular perms/ straightening procedures done. Give your scalp a break in between styling and be sure to use keratin products to help restore moisture, elasticity and strength to your strands.

* Apply stewed nettles, olive oil or apple cider vinegar to your scalp at least twice per week and massage gently. All of these offer nourishing properties for your scalp which helps promote hair growth. They will also remove excess dirt and debris from your scalp.

* Avoid using shampoos and conditioners that are filled with harsh chemicals, fragrances or sulfates. All of these weaken the follicles and lead to breakage.
